Five Things I
Loved About Old Providencia
A haven after
three days on constant motoring and a head wind bash, ¾ fuel
supplies used, and other than a pleasant stop at Villovero, just an
uncomfortable trip
Friendly folk -
Columbian territory, a mixture of black Caribes, nothing's a problem, mon,
nice cruiser folk too. A tropical paradise unspoilt by tourism, and
the people are proud of their island
Reggae bars on
idyllic beaches with funky outdoor furniture, hammocks, and just well, chilled out!
Scooter touring
round the island discovering great road end views, laid back cafes,
fantastic seafood, wonderful swimming
Santa Catalina
Island, Morgans Head walk and great snorkelling
Oh, there was one
thing I didn't like – having to do more work on my generator!
Boga's Cay, Vivorillo - an old cement works on a tiny coral islet |
Old Providencia |
The much castigated Generator |
Providencia Local |
Great snorkelling just off the beach |
Another excuse to stop and take photos. Just back up the road was another large statue featuring land crabs - they migrate May/June but sadly we didn't witness any great crab marches |
Another little bar at the end of a steep walkway, the proprieter a happy young Columbian living upstairs above the "bar", promising us a great night around a beach fire with his guitar, with fresh lobster and cold beers |
Bob Marley LIVES |
Cannons at the old fort on Santa Catalina provide perfect homes for the locals |
A pic taken from the fort near Morgan's Head - the locals call the hill with the notch "Morgan's Arse"
- a classic navigation feature entering Santa Catalina Harbour |
At Roland Roots |
Soem dangerous concoction by the Rasta barman, best enjoyed sitting in an old boat with Columbina colours, looking out on cool aquamarine waters |
Colourful walkways everywhere
More seafood than you can eat at a fantastic restaurant right on the beach,
and so so cheap! |
Someone from Aotearoa has been here before me |
Its hard work, all this snorkelling, walking, scootering and reggae bars! |
At Morgan's Head, brain coral, anemones and algal forests
